Private view and launch flyers

A private-view flyer shows one work, names the artist or the brand, and gives the date, time and venue. The image does the work: give it room and keep the text short.

How do you choose a private view flyer?

For an exhibition opening, templates with a large image and text in a band show the work well. For a product launch, a more graphic template suits.

Use one of your own images if you have one: the editor takes your photo in place of the template's.

What goes on a private view flyer?

  • The name of the exhibition, the artist or the product.
  • The date and time of the opening.
  • The venue, with the full address.
  • The exhibition dates, if it runs on.
  • How to confirm attendance.

How do you keep it legible?

Text on a flat colour or a band, never straight over a busy part of the image. One typeface for the name, a plainer one for the practical details.

Examples of opening lines

  • “Autumn exhibition, private view Thursday 20 November from 6 pm.”
  • “A first solo show: come and see it.”
  • “Launching the collection, with the team in attendance.”
  • “By invitation. Please confirm you are coming.”

Frequently asked questions

What belongs on a private-view invitation?
The name of the exhibition, the date and time, the venue, and how to confirm. An image of a work draws more than a description.
Is a private view invitation-only?
That is the host's choice. With Carton Blanc you can send to a list, or share the sign-up page more widely.
How do you count who came?
The sign-up page gives the number registered, and the check-in list lets you tick off arrivals.
Can you use a picture of an artwork?
Only with the permission of the artist or the rights holder. The photos in our templates are under the Unsplash licence.
