How do you choose a conference flyer?
Typographic templates with large letters suit conferences well: they go straight to the subject. A sharp photo of the speaker adds credibility.
For a series of talks, keep the same template from one date to the next so that the audience recognises the series.
What goes on a conference flyer?
- The title of the talk, as a question or a specific promise.
- The speaker's name and role.
- The date, start time and length.
- The venue, or the joining link if it is online.
- How to register, and the capacity of the room.
How do you keep it legible?
Title on two lines at most, speaker's name second, address last. On a poster, more than about thirty words will not be read.
Examples of opening lines
- “How do you read a balance sheet in forty minutes?”
- “Meet the author, 3 December at the library.”
- “Free entry, registration required.”
- “Questions from the floor: send them when you register.”
Frequently asked questions
- What goes on a conference flyer?
- The title, the speaker, the date, the venue and how to register. The detailed programme goes on the sign-up page.
- How do you handle registration for a free talk?
- A sign-up page with a capacity limit, an email confirmation and a waiting list. A reminder the day before reduces no-shows.
- Can you check attendees in at the door?
- Yes. The check-in list opens on a phone, and you tick people off as they arrive.
- Can a template be adapted to an online event?
- Yes: replace the address with the joining link, or with “online”, the time and the time zone.
